Great Local Rides
Scenic Route
This is an approximately 100 mile ride, with suggested stops at several scenic overlooks, and waterfalls. The first waterfall, Helton Creek Falls, is several miles down an improved gravel road. After Helton Creek Falls, you can either return to Hwy. 129, or continue along the gravel road and come out on Richard Russel Highway, bypassing several miles of pavement. If you choose to follow the gravel road, there will be two shallow creek crossings.
The Cooler Run
This is an approximately 37 mile run, mostly twisties. The section of US129 between Turner's Corner includes several miles of three lane, making it easy to pass.
The Extended Cooler Run
This is an approximately 80 mile ride, mostly scenic twisties. Watch for patrols along US 129 from Turner's Corner to Hwy. 180.
Nantahela Outdoor Center
This is an approximately 250 mile ride, with the goal being to find a twisty route to the Nantahela Outdoor Center for lunch, and another twisty route back to T.W.O. This route includes a visit to the infamous Keener-Cheng Curve.
The Cherohala
This route leaves T.W.O. on Hwy. 60, through Copper Hill to Tellico Plains, where it is advisable to buy gas. The ride then follows the Cherohala Skyway, a 50+ mile scenic ride without any available gas. After the Cherohala, the ride proceeds along Thunder Road, a.k.a. Wayah Bald Road, and back to T.W.O. for about 250 miles
The Loop (In Suches)
Take 180 (In Suches) to 129. Turn Right onto 19. Then make another right onto 60.
